Killdeer

Description
I've always wondered why a cute little bird would be named a Killdeer. Apparently it gets its name from its loud, shrill, two-syllable wailing call that sounds like "kill-deer" or "kill-dee". The name is an "onomatopoeia" mimicking the bird's common vocalization, and does not mean it kills deer. And you really can't miss finding these birds when they call!
